Storytime: What’s in the Sky?

on November 27, 2013

Last week, my theme for Evening Family Storytime was “What’s in the Sky?” I used my normal Hello and Goodbye songs to begin and end the storytime.

Book: Papa, Please Get the Moon for Me by Eric Carle

Song: “What’s the Weather?” (Tune: Clementine)

What’s the weather, what’s the weather,
What’s the weather, everyone?
Is it windy, is it cloudy,
Is there rain, or is there sun?

Flannel: Henny Penny

Action Rhyme: “Moon Ride”

Do you want to go up with me to the moon? (point up)
Let’s get in our rocket ship and blast off soon! (climb in, seat belt, blast off)
Faster and faster we reach to the sky (jump and reach)
Isn’t it fun to be able to fly? (hands out)
We’re on the moon, now all take a look (look around)
Sit back down, and I’ll read you a book. (sit down)

Book: Wow! Said the Owl by Tim Hopgood

Song: Itsy Bitsy Spider- Songs for Wiggleworms

The itsy bitsy went up the water spout
Down came the rain and washed the spider out
Out came the sun and dried up all the rain
And the itsy bitsy spider went up the spout again

great big hairy spider, very quiet spider, l’araignée gypsy

Book: How to Catch a Star by Oliver Jeffers

Action Rhyme: “Bend and Stretch”

Bend and stretch, reach for the stars
There goes Jupiter, here comes Mars
Bend and stretch and reach for the sky
Stand on tip-e-toe, oh so high!

Book: Duckie’s Rainbow by Frances Barry
